COACH21 - THE 13TH AND 14TH EPISODE

MONDAY MOTIVATOR

04/12/23

A daily blog by a coach for the coach

AM:

Monday morning workout!

It was another day, another breakfast club session visiting the lovely staff and pupils of St Mary’s, as much as this session is about the children being ready for the school day ahead, this session each morning is such a fulfilling thing for me to do personally, knowing that the children enjoy seeing me first thing everyday is something that never fails to fill me with immense pride!

Today, the focus of our breakfast club session was working on our target practice by throwing bean bags into three different hula hoops. The further one away was worth 3 points and the closer the hops o the less points it was worth. The children did very well at this and managed to rack up a lot of points.

WELL DONE GUYS!

PM:

Afternoon Awesomeness

Each Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoon, we travel to visit the wonderful staff and children of Bursar Primary School which never fails to disappoint!

This term we are delivering 3 different PE sessions to the pupils of Bursar: Ball Games, Interpretive Dance: Jazz and Circuits, for Year 1/2, Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 respectively.

For me personally Ball Games and Circuits are something that aren't alien to me personally as a coach and/or PE Teacher. But Jazz themed dance is a new one for me but I'm determined to have learnt a great deal (from teaching these sessions) and from the children, that have dance backgrounds, by the end of the term.

But before each session we deliver a lunch time club for the children that consists of a different sports activity most days, so today for example I set up a simple game of dodgeball for all of the children that were wanting to take part in sports club.

Today's afternoon PE lesson was Ball Games with Years 1 and 2 which was an enjoyable one for me personally because there is a lot of freedom with regards to the ball games topic...

In today's lessons they were based in the classroom due to the weather and the school having Christmas concerts taking place in the hall that we normally use for our lessons. They had a bit of a staggered flow due to the fact that the children hadn't been for some fresh air all afternoon sue to the weather which was unfortunate.

The behaviour of all of the groups on Monday afternoon was pretty good and the activities were completed to a good standard, also was surrounded by a great atmosphere by all of the children.

WEDNESDAY WORKOUT

06/12/23

AM:

Making Wednesday an active one!

Today, the idea for our breakfast club was to see if as group the children can work independently to achieve something. We did this by playing a game king-ball, and the rule was that you are never allowed 2 balls in your hand at once, and it was everyone against each other.

The children did themselves proud and played the game to a good standard and showed me that they can play a game sensibly without any disagreement and they are all wanting to have some fun !

Afternoon boogie

Each Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoon, we travel to visit the wonderful staff and children of Bursar Primary School which never fails to disappoint!

This term we are delivering 3 different PE sessions to the pupils of Bursar: Ball Games, Dance: Jazz and Circuits, for Year 1/2, Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 respectively.

For me personally Ball Games and Circuits are something that aren't alien to me personally as a coach and/or PE Teacher. But Jazz themed dance is a new one for me but I'm determined to have learnt a great deal (from teaching these sessions) and from the children that might have dance backgrounds by the end of the term.

But before each session we deliver a lunch time club for the children that consists of a different sports activity most days, so today for example we delivered a game of benchball The idea of the game is to get the ball to the person stood on the opposite bench. If you manage to do that you join them on the bench.

The children did this very well considering it could've been the first time that they've played this version of the game.

Today's afternoon PE lesson was Jazz dance (hence the title of this afternoons session). I was looking forward to this session.

The lesson began with a group recap for the first 5-10 minutes. I wanted to know if there was aspects of the last 2 lessons session that the children remembered and not to my surprise, there was plenty. All of the questions i asked them were answered with a degree of knowledge and when a child needed help with an answer. The group weren't shy to help out, which was refreshing to see.

We then had a go at practicing the three movements the learnt over the last few weeks and it was also another excuse to listen to more Jazz music.

The idea of recapping these movements was to make the steps a little more advanced and provide more of a Jazz orientated element to the steps we have already learnt. We broke each step into two and decided to focus on the 'heel and toe' steps. When completed properly, the motion would love a lot more "Jazzy" shall we say!

After doing this to a very good standard we proceeded to focus on how music portrays a certain type of mood and especially how music makes them feel personally and we were going to show how it does that and show it by how we travel around the hall.

The next daily update will feature Friday of the same week, in which we are in the same two schools but the lessons are slightly different, stay tuned as this will go live at either some point over the weekend or Monday morning(11/12/23)
